Executive Order to Increase Federal Employment of Workers with Disabilities

describe the imageAfter celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), President Obama signed an executive order that aims to increase federal employment of individuals with disabilities.

“Individuals with disabilities currently represent just over 5 percent of the nearly 2.5 million people in the Federal workforce.”

To increase this percentage, the order directs several federal agencies to design model recruitment and hiring strategies for agencies looking to increase their employment of people with disabilities. The order also calls for mandatory training programs for both human resources personnel and hiring managers on the employment of individuals with disabilities.

Additionally, the order seeks to improve the retention and return to work of federal workers with disabilities.

The executive order is available on the White House website.
